BOOKING A VISIT

Feel free to check out my publications to ensure I meet your needs.

THINGS I'LL DO: I can turn my hand to anything and I'm happy to present my work in front of children and adults. I am in the process of developing visit activities / formats for both groups. It is best to get in contact and take it from there. Keeping it all relaxed and fun is my aim. I like to do 1 hour sessions (usually two sessions a day) but can be flexible.

WHERE I'LL DO IT: Central Scotland, say about an hour's travel from Glasgow. Can probably travel further afield but that just needs a bit of organisation as I have a young child to consider. If I have a longer travelling time than an hour please team up with another group to make sure I maximise my time and have at least two paid sessions.

HOW MUCH?: At the moment I am asking for £150 per session, plus travel (42p per mile) / subsistence / VAT (20%). This is in line with most authors and I intend to give value for money! (NB - I am applying to be on the Scottish Book Trust's 'Live literature funding' scheme which will subsidise an author's visit).

WHAT TO DO BEFOREHAND: Please get the children / adults in the mood by reading my work. You might like to print off my biography for discussion purposes. Some of my website is aimed at adults (ie the Writing for TV and Radio sections) but parts can be simplified and used as ideas for school classwork / groupwork. In time I will add printable materials to make this easier.

EXPERIENCE: I was a teacher for 14 years and aimed to be a creative, positive presence in the classroom. I have been round schools as a storyteller discussing my work, and appeared at the Cheltenham Literacy festival (alongside Brum) and signed books in Bookshops. I have worked in TV land for years and made many presentations to a range of groups. I also have a wee daughter who constantly challenges me to be interesting ... and to tell her fun stories. Basically, I am a full-time writer & Dad who likes to meet anyone interested in books (and / or how they are published).

CONTACTING ME: I prefer to be contacted initially by e-mail. The internet is not a great place for respecting phone numbers or personal privacy. I will ensure your privacy is respected and none of your details will be kept by me unless you are happy for this.

If you wish to book me or contact me about my work please click here to send me an e-mail.
